$1.3 million for Care West

13 Sep, 2009 10:06 PM
Care West Lodge has received a $1.3 million boost through the federal government’s stimulus package Jobs Fund.

The Rotary Club of Mudgee is one of numerous community groups around NSW raising money to build the $2 million complex of units for patients undergoing cancer treatment at the new Orange Hospital.

Mudgee Rotary president John Staples said he was very pleased to hear Orange City Council and Cancer Care West had been successful in their bid for a slice of the latest funding.

Mudgee Rotary aims to raise $50,000 to pay for one unit in the lodge, which will be named the ‘Mudgee Room’ in honour of the group’s efforts.

Mr Staples said the Rotary Club of Mudgee had already raised $43,000, including more than $10,000 at the recent UCML and Associated Industries Charity Golf Day at Mudgee Golf Club.

He said he had been impressed by the community’s “deep pockets,” and he thanked the people of Mudgee for their support.

The club’s next fundraiser will be a a dinner with Rotary’s district governor, Greg Bevan, at the Mudgee Brewing Co on Tuesday, September 29.
