$5000 raised for charity

01 Nov, 2009 09:02 PM
Mudgee High School year 12 students were overwhelmed by the response from audience members at this year’s ‘a day on the green’ concert on Saturday, with over $5000 raised through the charity organisation collection.

Ten year 12 students and year adviser Steve Fitzgerald took around collection buckets on the day, fundraising for the three aged care services around the town.

The collection tied in with other fundraising for the services done by the 2009 year 12 group throughout the past year.

Mr Fitzgerald said he was overwhelmed by the donations.

“We didn’t really know what to expect when we turned up, but it exceeded my expectations.”

Mr Fitzgerald said announcements were made on the screen and from the stage letting people know what they were supporting by donating to the students.

“Everyone dug really deep. The Oriental gave us $250, Roundhouse Entertainment gave us $250 and Oatley’s gave us $250, so even before we had started collecting we already had $750,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

School captain Grace Segal was one of the students collecting on the day,

“It was fantastic, we were really successful with the amount we raised and everyone was really friendly and generous and willing to hand over some money,” Miss Segal said.

A cheque will be presented to each of the aged care facilities at the year 12 formal on November 19.

Mr Fitzgerald estimated the students had raised around $18,000 for the centres.

Fans flock to hear Chambers

Thousands of fans who flocked to the sold out ‘a day on the green’ concert at Robert Oatley Vineyard on Saturday were treated with sunny weather and a popular line up of well-known artists. Kasey Chambers, with husband Shane Nicholson as special guest, headlined this year’s concert.

Kasey shared the limelight with artists Mental As Anything, Wendy Matthews, Ian Moss and James Reyne.

Deck chairs and picnic rugs covered the green, as ticket holders spread out to listen to the various acts.

The five multi-award-winning artists have produced some of the most memorable music in Australian history.
