The shinegirl program is designed for students starting high school - Year 7 and 8 students - and is aimed at building girls’ self confidence through increasing their sense of worth, helping them make choices and giving them a sense of purpose for their lives.

The day was aimed at previous participants of the program to come together for a full day of workshops including dance, nutrition and make-up.

Spokesperson for the shinegirl program, Lara Brett said that the feedback from the schools and parents had been really positive so far, saying she has already noticed obvious changes in confidence levels of the girls involved.

“The girls involved have taken to the program really well and are really enjoying it,” Miss Brett said.

“The day is all about building self esteem-self worth and knowledge about their environment. Nearly every girl I have worked with has enjoyed the experience and it’s all about letting these young women have fun and learning at the same time.”

The workshops are being hosted by different people from across the community including Wendy Gilbert from Gorgus, Ultimate Care and Dance Unlimited.

Miss Brett said the shinegirl workshops are always well received by all involved and she was proud to be helping these young women learn and grow.

“It is really rewarding to be involved in something which has such a positive affect on these young women.”
