Better than a meat tray

A well known local businessman has won a $20,000 holiday courtesy of Harvey Norman.

Dave Smith, who runs Country Electronics, received the good news last week and will also receive $5,000 spending money as part of the prize.

“I was completely blown away and thought it was some sort of joke.

“I’ve won a few meat trays in my time but nothing as big as this,” he said.

He said he entered the draw after purchasing a Mother’s Day gift.

“Mother’s Day proved to be my lucky day as it turned out,” he said

Mr Smith plans to take his wife, Robyn and daughters Tara, 18, Shahna, 16 and Natasha, 14 to Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam before the end of the year.

He said it would be the first decent holiday he has had in 15 years.

“I’ve been busy building my business over that time and haven’t taken the time for a major holiday with the family.

“Winning this prize means we will all be able to take that long awaited holiday together,” he said.

Harvey Norman franchisee, Scott Sims said six Harvey Norman stores in the Central West participated in the draw with entries in excess of 10,000.

“Stores in cities such as Dubbo and Orange are huge so it’s great to see a Mudgee local pick up the prize,” he said

Mr Sims said the competition ran over three weeks during May when customers purchasing goods valued at over $100 were eligible to enter.

“There were over 2,000 entries in Mudgee alone,” he said.

Mr Smith said he appreciated the generosity of Harvey Norman for putting up such a great prize.

“It’s an incentive which encourages people to shop locally,” he said.

Mr Smith has lived in Mudgee most of his life.
