NSW Farmers’ Association Mudgee branch chairman John Webb has urged anyone concerned about property rights to get on board a free bus to a protest rally in Canberra on Tuesday, February 2.
Local National Farmers’ branches are covering the cost of the bus trip to the rally protesting against the erosion of property rights.
The rally will build on the publicity given to farmer Peter Spencer’s hunger strike in protest at loss of property rights in NSW.
Mr Webb said that erosion of property rights through vegetation, water and planning laws and mining affected not only farmers, but the wider community.
“It’s not only farmers. Anyone interested in property rights of any description is welcome to come,” he said.
“People have got to see this could be our best chance of changing things.
“It we don’t take advantage of all the publicity generated our of Peter Spencer’s protest, we’ll have missed the boat.
“We’ve been waiting for years to step up and do something and to have enough people to make a difference.”
Mr Webb said property rights were threatened by changes such as the separation of land and water rights, and proposals by the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) to make farmers pay for water for stock and domestic use.
A bus will leave Mudgee at 3am on Tuesday, picking up Gulgong area travellers at Guntawang at 3.15am.
People interested in travelling to Canberra should contact John Webb on 6373 3951 or 0428 134 398 or their local National Farmers’ branch chairman by Monday.
