A woman died in a single car crash near Gulgong on Monday night.
At about 7.30pm the 44-year-old woman was driving a Ford sedan south along Cope Road near the intersection with Nugget Lane at Gulgong.
Police said that it appeared the vehicle veered right onto the incorrect side of the roadway, leaving the road and hit with a large tree about one kilometre from Gulgong
The force of the impact was severe and caused the vehicle to end up on its driver side about 30 metres from the tree.
The female driver and sole occupant, from Cope, died at the scene.
Police from Mudgee Local Area Command and other emergency services attended the scene.
They examined the site for several hours and will include all their findings in a report for the Coroner.

The state’s road toll as of Monday (8 February) now stands at 47, compared to 28 this time last year.
Monday’s accident brings the number of fatalities in the Mudgee Local Area Command for 2010 to two - both in the Gulgong area.
