A $1,000 donation to the Mudgee men’s shed by the local Lions Club has narrowed its goal of raising $150,000 for the construction of the building.
President of the Mudgee Lions Club, Les Leisfield said the club had raised funds throughout the year from functions, racecourse gates and the A Day on the Green.
“We decided to match dollar for dollar from a $500 contribution from the Mudgee Trades committee.
“The committee raised $500 from its annual BBQ on 14 November,” he said.
Michael Brydon and Bruce McGregor of the men’s shed steering committee said they were delighted to receive this generous donation from the Lions Club.
“It typifies the generosity the community has already given to the construction of the shed.
“This will help our goal of raising a further $60,000.
“We already have enough money to start building,” they said.
The steering committee is aiming to have the shed completed to lock up stage by the Small Farm Field Days in 2009.
Mr Leisfield said the Lions Club would be making on-going contributions to the men’s shed.
