When John Simpson began exploring the properties of copper on the human body, he never sought fame, just to find an answer to his scientific questions.
The self-described scientist and Mudgee-based part-time cleaner has found a simple remedy for an age-old problem.
The answer is a copper-based cream which, theoretically, helps stop arthritic and joint pain, and even muscle spasms.
Local chemist, David Spruce says the results have been “unbelievable.”
“When John came into the shop trying to sell it I was pretty sceptical, I mean we get a lot of people trying to sell their products here claiming they work, but John’s cream actually works!”
Mr Spruce said since discovering the benefits of the cream he has referred several of his clients on to John due to the legal implications of selling the product in the shop.
“It’s a fantastic product but the problem is, I can’t sell it without TGA approval but until then I just refer them to John.”
Mr Simpson however remains more modest about his results, saying that it is a relatively simple process and that despite constant legal battles he has had positive results from everyone involved.
“Theoretically it improves the blood-flow to the afflicted area causing the pain to stop. I’ve had lots of people come up to me and thank me for how much it has helped them… but it only works on osteoarthritis and injuries but not on rheumatoid arthritis,” he said.
Despite the current legal battles, Mr Simpson says he hopes to release the product into the market within two years.
“I’ve been working on it since 2002-2003 and have been giving it out to friends and family but for now it’s sort of legal limbo land. Hopefully the sooner everything is sorted out the sooner people will be able to purchase it commercially but until then we just have to wait and see.”
