Do you have an interesting collection stored in your house?
One lucky Mudgee resident didn’t realise his new house held a collection now worth a few thousand dollars.
While renovating their new home the resident’s wife found $450 in Commonwealth of Australia notes.
She had been pulling up the carpet when she spotted the first $250 bundle and proceeded to find another $200 in other areas of the house.
The gentleman said his wife had prevented him from spending them at the time and the notes had sat in his car’s glove box for a few months before he took them to the club.
One of the $5 notes alone was now worth around $2000 due to the serial number, make and condition of the note.
“We think it was a pensioners stash from the 1960s or early 1970s,” the resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said.
“We are not too sure what we will do now, we don’t collect, but we wont be spending it,” he said.
“It has been good coming along to the meeting too, I have learnt a little bit about the grade of money and the value of the money depending on the variety. It has been a real learning process,” the resident said.
The Mudgee Coin, Note and Stamp Collectors Club is looking for new members, with the list of collection items not restricted to those in the club’s name.
Club president Ed Pratt said members were not restricted in their collections, the club only required they collected something.
“People collect cameras, they collect all kinds of things, anything can be a collectable and we are interested in them coming along,” Mr Pratt said.
The group will also value your coins and notes.
The Mudgee Coin, Note and Stamp Collectors Club meets on the first Sunday of the month at 2pm, holding their meeting first before showing off their collections.
