Mid-Western Regional Council has agreed to relinquish its trusteeship of the Ulan Recreational Reserve to make way for a possible mining camp.
At council’s meeting last Wednesday, councillors considered a request from the Department of Land and Water Conservation to give up its trusteeship over the land.
A report to council stated that Barson Pty Ltd, on behalf of On Edge Developments, was communicating with the department’s Dubbo office about a possible mining camp development and was investigating the Ulan Recreational Reserve as a site.
On Edge is seeking a 20-year-lease over the public reserve to construct the mining accommodation facility.
As part of the project, the company proposes to upgrade the tennis courts and community building on the site, which will be available for the use of the communty.
In its resolution, council has stated that it will encourage the Department of Primary Industry (Crown Land Division) to consult with the public about the use of a reserve before a development application is lodged.
The proposal is subject to approval of a development application by Mid-Western Regional Council.
