Locals know what a great place Mudgee is, and more tourists will know too following a visit by a popular television travel show.
Sydney Weekender host Mike Whitney and crew were in Mudgee on Tuesday and Wednesday.
With locations such as the Butcher Shop Café, The Tannery, Oatley Wines Montrose Winery and Oatley Wines Craigmoor cellar door, what more could a visitor want for a weekend away?
The show will focus on the Burning of the Canes at Oatley Wines Craigmoor cellar door, with the show holding a competition to send four people to the area for the popular harvest time event.
“Mudgee is a fabulous destination, it’s four hours from Sydney which is perfect for a weekend and it’s a beautiful drive up here,” Mike said.
Sydney Weekender comes to the area to film three or four times a year.
“It’s a beaut place to be,” Mike said.
Mike has a long connection to the area.
Going to school with First National Real Estate’s Geoff Bartlett, Mike said he spent school holidays on Geoff’s family property.
“I have always been associated with Mudgee and I have seen the place develop over the past 35 years.”
Last week the show was also in the area, filming in the Capertee Valley at Glen Davis and the Glen Davis Boutique Hotel.
“The uniqueness of the area I think is the wine. When people think of wine they generally think of the Hunter Valley, which is a beautiful place, but the wine here is putting Mudgee on the map.”
