Mudgee students are parking it

In a joint initiative between TAFE and the local National Parks and Wildlife Service, parks in the area will have 10 custom built picnic tables and 16 new barbeques.

The tables are being constructed at the TAFE Cassilis Road campus,

Lisa Menke of the NPWS said the tables were for the Goulburn River National Park and the barbeques would be heading to Dunns Swamp.

“It’s an affordable way of having good park furniture and enables us to have input into the design.

“These are welded and with good fixtures can’t be moved, which is important for NPWS.

TAFE teacher, Geoff Hawes said the 17 students were part of the pre-apprenticeship and metal fabrication and welding course and said it was a good initiative.

“It gives them a sense of belonging to the community and gives them introductory basic skills,” he said.

He said it’s great for the students to be able to put theory into practice.
