Mudgee’s Greatest Shave aims for $20,000 target

05 Feb, 2010 08:07 AM
The team at Rozanna’s Pharmacy will host one of the region’s biggest haircutting events as part of Mudgee’s Greatest Shave to help find a cure for leukaemia,

In conjunction with the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave, the Mudgee pharmacy has already coaxed two of their members into losing or colouring their hair for the cause.

One of those is Rozanna’s owner Malcolm Henriques who says he is going to colour his hair blue.

“I might even shave my arms and legs too - who knows,” he said.

The pharmacy hopes to raise $20,000 to help cancer research as the Mudgee and Gulgong region has seen 500 cases of cancer in only the last five years.

Mudgee’s Greatest Shave will start at 6.30pm and people are encouraged to bring their work colleagues, bosses, friends, and family for the event.

Just as important is businesses donating goods and services to use for fundraising as raffles will be drawn on the night of charity, entertainment and fun.

Any business which donates goods, services, or in-kind donations will be printed on the event program and Rozanna’s Pharmacy windows will be used to display the donation items.

Pharmacist in charge at Rozanna’s, Alexandra Keipert, said the pharmacy was getting behind the event because cancer effects so many people.

“Many people within Mudgee have to travel long distances to get treatment and the Leukaemia Foundation works hard to help where they can,” she said.

The Foundation provides things such as free accommodation for patient and families and as well as medical research.

Tickets for the raffles will be on sale at Rozanna’s Pharmacy for only $20 and if they sell 1000 tickets, the goal of $20,000 will be reached.

The World’s Greatest Shave is run by the Leukaemia Foundation which currently cares for 28 diagnosed patients and predicts approximately 180 new blood cancers to be diagnosed in the Central West this year.

- Rozanna’s Pharmacy wants to turn the town blue on February 26 in support of Mudgee’s Greatest Shave. Colour your hair blue, wear a blue wig or wear blue to school or work. Collect gold coin donations at your school, workplace for with friends and support the Leukaemia Foundation.
