Quilters all fired up for a good cause

11 Jun, 2009 06:14 PM
A group of Mudgee quilters have produced a stack of quilts for victims of the Victorian bushfires.

About 10 women have contributed quilts, either by attending a two-day quilting meet held in St Mary’s Catholic Church parish centre, or by producing quilts at home.

Sixteen quilts have been collected, and will soon be transported to Victoria, where they will be given to the Red Cross for distribution.

Many people who lost their homes in the fires are still living in tents, and quilts are expected to be useful to them as chillier weather comes on.

The quilters thanked everybody who contributed or donated equipment, particularly Jen’s Sewing Basket and Clarkson’s Clearance, both of which contributed materials, and the Catholic Church for the use of its parish centre.
