Sing when you’re winning: Local tops karaoke comp

Jessica Wood can sing.

The 23-year-old won the Mudgee heats of the World Karaoke Championships before travelling to Tamworth to take on singers from Tamworth, Lismore and Lightning Ridge to win the regional state finals.

The competition culminated in a four-way sing-off after the judges were unable to decide between Jessica and three other competitors.

Jessica said she has been singing since she was eight years old and during the Tamworth competition she performed Save the Best for Last by Vanessa Williams and Let ‘Er Rip by the Dixie Chicks.

“I sing everything, I have a really wide variety of choice,” Jessica said.

Jessica will now head to Melbourne to compete in the national heat on August 1 at Ferntree Gully.

From there the winner will travel to Finland to represent Australia in the World Karaoke Championships, which has been won by Australian competitors for the past three years.

“If I got through I would definitely go,” Jessica said.
