A successful partnership between Skillset, Central West Group Apprentices and AJS Electrical has enabled 10 students from Mudgee, Orange, Bathurst and Lithgow to complete a six-week NSW Department of Education and Training pre-apprenticeship program.
The Electrical Trade Preparation program offered students the opportunity to complete nationally recognised training from the electrical training package including electrical concepts, safety, using tools and drawings.
Anthony Stockman, general manager, AJS Electrical said that the program was an ideal first step for young people wanting to secure an electrical apprenticeship.
“Securing an apprenticeship is extremely competitive now and this trade preparation course really allows the young people to show potential employers their commitment through learning skills, attendance and team work within the group.” he said
Jenny Sinclair, Skillset training manager said the students gained valuable experience through the program and the work experience opportunities.
“Conducting the course through Skillset and locating the training in industry is proving extremely successful. The students have first hand experience working in an actual commercial electrical business and then being onsite viewing and discussing practical work methods.” Ms Sinclair said
“The aim of the program is to assist the graduates to obtain local electrical apprenticeships, particularly through government agencies and authorities as part of the NSW Premier’s initiative to increase apprenticeship intake across the State”, she said.
“Work experience is currently being organised and we will be working with the participants to secure work opportunities over the coming weeks.”
