Thousands of students will head back to school this week while hundreds more will walk through the gates for the first time.
While the Mudgee Guardian couldn’t find any students who wanted to go back to the classroom, a few were keen on socialising.
High school students Hannah Bruton and Taylor Sanders wanted to head back to school, only to see all the friends they hadn’t caught up with over the school holidays.
St Matthew’s students Marnie and Abbie Robbins were keen to find out who their teachers were this year.
Marnie will start year six and Abbie will start year three on Thursday.
Students going into kindergarten and year 10 at the school will be back on Wednesday while teachers start on Tuesday.
When asked if she had any advice for new students Marnie was quick to answer.
“Have fun ... and listen to your teacher,” Marnie said.
Both girls were well equipped to start the scholar year with new pencil cases, pens and pencils, lunch boxes, school bags, shoes and ironed uniforms.
With strike action cancelled last week, the school year will resume as normal.
Teachers will start back at school from tomorrow with a staff development day before students head back.
Mudgee High School principal Louise Manwaring said only some students would be back at the school on Wednesday.
“Student in year 11, 12 and 7 will be starting on Wednesday 28, while students in year 8, 9 and 10 will be starting on Thursday January 29.”
Ms Manwaring said new enrolments at the school should attend with the rest of their year.
If parents are unsure when their child is expected to start school, they should phone the school on Tuesday.
