There were many excited students in Mudgee this week who realised their dreams when the list of university admissions was released.
Jared Reyes, 18, got his wish and made it in the very coveted physiotherapy degree at Sydney University with a UAI score of 94.05.
Asked why he chose physio, Jared replied he had always been a gym junkie and was fascinated by the human body.
“I am so looking forward to studying more about how it works.
“For me, it’s like medicine for jocks,” he said.
He said he works out three times a week and played basketball until a shoulder injury forced him to give it up.
“That was the first time I had been to a physio, although I had considered it as a career choice before that.
“Once I saw what they did, I was hooked.
Jared said he was looking forward to getting into life in the big smoke.
“When I finish the four year course, I hope to practice in the city, but maybe later I’ll want to move back to the country.
Jared will be based at the Cumberland campus and hopes to be living at the nearby Yanadah College.
Colleague, Angus Bray, 18, was successful in gaining admission to his first choice, mining engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
“I have always been interested in engineering and at school, I loved maths and science.
“The whole process of mining interests me and a career in mining has lots of opportunities to work overseas.
“I will be living at Baxter College on campus and received a mining engineering scholarship worth $9000, which will help pay for my accommodation.”
When he’s not delving into the wonders of calculus and science, Angus likes to play hockey and plays the drums in a Mudgee band called, ‘Vintage Goon’.
I hope to be able to continue with my sport and my music when I go to Sydney.”
Angus will move into Baxter at the start of orientation week on February 23.
