Work commencing on the $1.2 billion Ulan West coal mine has led to a major recruitment drive for potential employees across eastern Australia.
Ulan Coal is calling both experienced miners and those with no mining background to apply for one of an expected 350 jobs to be created during the mine’s operation.
Prospective roles include operators, electrical and mechanical tradespeople, mine undermanagers and deputies, and process area coordinators.
Ulan Coal general manager Dan Clifford said potential employees have the chance to be part of “one of the most modern and progressive coal operations in Australia”.
Mr Clifford said the recruitment campaign would feature strengths of the Mudgee region as a desirable place to live.
“The strength of the mining industry across Australia has made it difficult for other mines to attract new employees in recent years, but we believe that Ulan has more to offer,” he said.
“Mudgee is a great place to live.
“It offers all of the amenities of a bigger city and a great lifestyle in a beautiful rural setting.
“We’re also offering the right people significant career opportunities and we think that will help attract more people to consider a move to Mudgee with their families.”
The campaign is to be rolled out through Sydney, western NSW and Queensland between May and July.
Mr Clifford said a broad range of trades, skills and experience are being sought, from supervisors to labourers, truck drivers to trades people and engineers to complement the existing Ulan Coal workforce.
“We want to attract people with the right attitude and work ethic and we will invest in developing their skills,” he said.
An information night about the new opportunities at Ulan Coal will be held at Parklands Resort in Mudgee at 7pm on Monday, May 16.
Further events will also be held in Rylstone (June 16) and Gulgong (June 29).
