 Cox the difference in thriller

Cox the difference in thriller

A five wicket haul to Cameron Cox has helped the Woolpack Hotel an outright lead in the O’Brien Bartlett First National first grade cricket competition after three rounds.

The Oriental side was given a target of 175 to win after Woolpack captain Steve Knight won the toss and elected to bat. Making his return from a back injury, the side looked more complete as the skipper led the charge with the bat, firing 80 runs including nine fours.

A tight opening bowling spell from Oriental’s Ryan McGregor could not crack the Woolpack lineup and it was not until Croake collected Hayden Seis for seven that Oriental’s day started to turn. Young inform bowler Doug McLennan was once again in the action as he took two wickets to destroy Woolpacks middle order but Nash did most of the damage taking four wickets from his nine overs.

Knight and Cox then returned with the ball for Woolpack and after the 16 year old removed Oriental’s Ben Headley for 28 – after a 75 run partnership with Mark Hundy, the game was almost out of reach.

However a quick 15 including three fours from Kelly gave Oriental a slight hope before Mick Jarvis took the last two wickets to end the game.
