Keipert’s horrific crash

18 Nov, 2009 02:36 PM
Mudgee’s Supercross racer Matt Keipert is out of Saturday’s day-night Stadium X race after crashing and severely breaking his leg in Sydney last week.

The Mudgee and Districts Motorcycle club All Powers champion fractured his femur (thigh bon) in practice for the fifth round of the Supercross series at Parramatta Stadium.

Keipert was trying to land a jump when he flipped over the handlebars and landed hard on the dirt.

He suffered a compound fracture and injured his shoulder.

He underwent surgery on Sunday to put a still rod in his leg.

Keipert had light physio on Monday but doctors have told him he cannot put any weight on his leg.

President of MDMC Jeff Dray has spoken to Keipert and said he was doing well.

“He is in high spirits... there is the possibility he might even come home tomorrow (Wednesday),” Dray said.

It is a big blow for MDMC as Keipert was one of the main draw cards for the club’s inaugural day-night event.

The other was fellow local rider Jason Hackett, who will also miss the Stadium X because of injury.

Despite not having Mudgee’s two biggest riders for the event, Dray said there would be plenty of other quality riders on show.

“There are some big names coming. Brodie Hartin has confirmed, he is a pro from Orange. I’m just waiting on a few other national riders to get back to me,” Dray said.

The inaugural MDMC day-night Stadium X is at the AREC site on Cassilis rd and begins at 2pm

on Saturday.
