A 177-run fifth wicket partnership has steered the Court House Hotel to a massive win over the Red Heifer’s in the Mudgee Bearing Centre Reserve Grade Cricket Competition last Saturday.
After eight overs the match appeared to be in Red Heifer’s favour as the side took four wickets for 29 runs, leaving Court House looking doubtful to make it halfway through the allotted 40 overs.
However Court House opening batsman Mark Sargent and number six Dane Coburn had different ideas when they came to the crease for the fifth wicket, massing the largest partnership this season.
The partnership came to an end when Sargent retired on 101 and Coburn was removed for 84 from a Glen Frost catch and a Dave Croake delivery.
Sargent took to the Lawson Park bowling attack with an innings including 15 fours and three sixes whilst Coburn was no slouch either, providing 10 fours and three sixes.
At the end of a gruelling 40 overs in the field for Red Heifer, Court House finished with a massive 256 run target.
Whilst most bowlers went for six runs or more an over, an outstanding performance for the Heifers was youngster Harry Ottley who took 3-13 from his five overs.
And similarly to the Court House innings, Red Heifer were in trouble early with the bat as the first wicket fell to Hayden Cox who was run out without facing a ball and the team left reeling at 3/11 again from eight overs.
The fourth wicket partnership between Frost (30) and Croake (34) brought some stability to the run chase but as Frost held out to a Tim Huia catch, it was all too late for the Heifers.
With the scoreboard at 4/80 with 12 overs remaining it was going to take a mammoth effort to exceed the total and a task not matched for the Heifers as the next six wickets fell for just 19 runs.
The main destroyers from the Court House side were Col Wright (3-10), Justin Grimshaw (2-5) and J Edwards (2-4) from their allotted five overs.
