A third quarter lapse in concentration cost Mudgee Black Swans a home victory in the Central West AFL reserve grade competition on Saturday.

The Black Swans and Dubbo Demons were neck and neck throughout the first half with the visitors leading 5.3.33-5.0.30 at the end of the first quarter and again at half-time when the scores were 8.4.52-8.3.51.

But "a totally different team came out" for Mudgee as they kicked a point compared to Dubbo's 36 points.

Dubbo went on to win the match 17.12.114 to 11.7.73.

Black Swans coach Greg Dowker said his team switched off in the third quarter.

"We were right with them in the first half. Our first half was superb," Dowker said.

"But in the third quarter, a totally different team came out. We stopped tackling, stopped running, stopped being the first to the ball.

"Once you are belted in the third quarter, you can't come back."

Mudgee regrouped to win the fourth quarter but it was far too late.

"It was just that one quarter," he said.

"We lost concentration. We were baffled and when they scored a few quick goals, it rattled us. We were tired in the third quarter.”

Will Moffitt kicked five goals, Blake Usher three and new recruit Brad James booted three as well.

James went on to play for the Mudgee Dragons in first division and scored 24 points in their 64-12 win over Orange CYMS.

"He was good," Dowker said of James’ performance.

"I was surprised with him. He is an all-round sports person. I think he enjoyed himself."

The Black Swans have the bye this weekend.
