This year looks to be positive one for the Mudgee Wolves after a large number of players turned up for the club's first training session last Tuesday night.
About 40 men and women strapped on the soccer boots for the first time in 2012, ready for the upcoming season.
The Wolves had two men's and a women's senior teams last year with the Wolfettes taking out the third grade competition without dropping a game.
The Wolfettes pummelled their opposition scoring an average six goals per game.
Their domination was complete when they hammered Oberon 4-0 in the grand final to claim the club's first women's premiership since 2006.
There is a suggestion the women's side will step up a division to second grade for this season.
But watching the girls go all the way, the men want premiership glory in 2012.
Last year's fourth grade coach Jason Payne did not expect the large turn out of players.
"Everyone was pretty happy to be there. It was bit of a lick around and find out who was interested in playing this year," Payne said.
From the number of players there, the Wolves could possibly nominate three men's teams for the Bathurst District Football competition, which would be a first for a number of years.
"Going on from last night some said they want to nominate for first, third and fourth grade others want to play second, third and fourths," Payne said.
"Personally I would like us to play in firsts."
But even if they nominate two teams in the men's competition, the Wolves will be competitive.
Payne said there were a few new faces at training on Tuesday as well as old ones including former first grade captain Craig Mitchell.
Mitchell did not play last year as he was overseas for the majority of the season.
Payne expects the younger players his side last year to push for selection for the top team.
"They have got the experience from playing that first year [in senior football].
"It will be nice to see those guys make the step up into the higher grades."
A draw for the BDF won't be released for some time after teams have nominated which grades they want to play.
