Sixty players, nine ladies, took to the Mudgee Golf course with a shotgun start for Mudgee Veterans’ Golf Christmas Cheer day on Tuesday.
Included in these numbers were 10 visiting veterans from Henbury and Gulgong.
Once again the course was in excellent condition after the heavy rains last week and players were only a little inconvenienced by the workers installing the new irrigation system for the course.
Division 1 was won by Don Peterson with 40 points; Gerry Bartyn took second with 37 points beating Drew Pirie into the runner-up position.
Division 2 was won by a visiting player from Gulgong, Fred Ridout, with a healthy score of 40 points; second was Bill Vesty with 37 points. Third was Bob Kearins with 36 points.
Ladies winner was Karin Sheedy with 38 points; second was Sylvia McGregor with 34.
NTP on the 11th was Sylvia Macgregor at 690cm and on the 17th was John Tuit with a hit closer to the pin at 270am.
On the second fairway there was a mishap between John Tuit and David Macgregor.
Tuit’s shot went astray and struck Macgregor in the hand.
However, Macgregor soldiered on for four more holes, until he realised that the injury was more serious than first thought.
A trip to the doctor revealed a broken bone in his hand and hope it doesn’t keep him off the golf course for long while Tuit is reported to be working on his approach shots!
Ball competition winners were: B Insul, K Baker, R Hughes, P Condon, P Johnson. K Heferen, S Miller, E Burgman, J Moss, A Weakley, O Tolomeo, L Tosh, B Dickie, G Thompson, K Kerrigan, J Denshire, T Cooke, B Maguire, N Honeysett, M Mallinson, B Walker, B Bleechmore, J Parr, N Leonard.
The members should check the noticeboard to confirm the date for the next Veterans Open Day, which will probably be January 20.
The veterans take this opportunity to thank all players who competed this year, and wish them a Merry Christmas and good golfing for 2009.
