Saturday’s feature game in Mudgee District Netball between Division 3 teams K/R Flaming Falcons and Gulgong Dispensary was a terrific game, however this was not reflected on the scoreboard.
The first quarter saw some good intercepts by K/R’s Jade Johnston in the keepers role, but the quarter was dominated by Gulgong’s Orlander Rumming whose shooting was precise and her skills in the circle outstanding.
The second quarter showed a change in positions for both teams and resulted in exciting play between the two centre positions. Both these girls, Kristy Jackson from Gulgong and Kristy Sullivan from K/R, battled it out from one end of the court to the other and back again many times over. With so many good defensive moves shown in this game, you would have to say this game was based around its defensive play rather than its attacking skills.
The Gulgong team dominated the second half of the game, particularly when K/R’s Kristy Sullivan went down with an injury leaving the team short for several centre passes as they had no substitutes. However a brave Lauren Manly, from Division 6, stepped up to the mark filling in competently for K/R. Hannah Harris proved to be a quiet but hard worker and Elise Woods played a solid game for Gulgong. For K/R Sammy-jo Harris showed consistency with her defense and with some refinement on her skills will cut down her penalty rate.
