The roar of motorbikes is coming to Mudgee this weekend, when the Australian Rural Education Centre (AREC) hosts the first ever Stadium Cross.

There will be a range of classes to cater for everyone - young to old, women and men, from the professional to the player.

The 13 classes range from four-year-old Nippers right through to Opens and there are just over 50 local riders waiting to impress the spectators.

One is local rider Jason Hackett, who experts tip is the one to watch this weekend.

Hackett was recently added to the talented list of riders for the Mudgee Honda Centre.

Mick Sheridan of the Mudgee Honda Centre said they were delighed to have such talented riders as Hackett a part of their team.

“He is a very talented rider with a lot of potential and his home town should be behind him 100 per cent,” Sheridan said.

Hackett’s sponsorship is part of the Race Ready Support Program developed by Honda Australia.

With this comes Hackett’s brand new 2009 CRF450R, 4 stroke 450 race ready bike.

With his new bike, Hackett competed in the Chad Reed Supercross series in Wollongong over the weekend.

This is a major race with Chad Reed, the World Supercross Champion, in the pack.

Hackett qualified in the top 18 against some of the serious pro-riders.

“This is no ordinary feat on a bike he owned for 24 hours - that kind of talent can only come naturally,” Sheridan said.

“We’re lucky to have him.”

He joins the ranks of his fellow Honda-sponsored riders, local guys Lewis Wolthers, Kurtis Wolthers, Matt Keipert and Travis Flack.

These five riders will all be riding for Mudgee Honda Centre this weekend.

So get ready for some fantastic entertainment with the Parklands Stadium Cross, which is guaranteed to be both spectacular and great fun.

Organisers ensure spectators there’ll be something for the entire family including a jumping castle and face painting for the kids

The free barbeque and live music entertainment will keep the entire family entralled.

The kids are even invited to bring along their swimmers to make a splash in the indoor swimming facilities at Parklands.

“It’s expected to be a huge event and we’re anticipating great things from the local riders,” Kelly Dray of the Mudgee and District Motorcycle Club, said.
