Hound overcomes renal failure as a pup to win maiden

26 Apr, 2009 07:03 PM
Racing at the Mudgee Greyhound Racing Club’s track on Sunday was marred by a no race that could have seen the last two races of the meeting abandoned.

Club Steward Craig Easey declared the sixth race a no race after the lure lost power.

“When the lure lost power the five dog (Hellfighter) almost caught the lure and that dog started to ease and lose momentum,” Easey said.

“Under the rules of the sport I had no alternative other than to declare race six a no race even though the lure regained power and the field raced to the finish.”

Chloe Milne was a 4/5 favourite for the race and won like an odds on pop by 4.25 lengths leaving owner/trainer Bob Milne disappointed at the ‘no race’ call.

The sixth race result was also placed on hold until Easey spoke to the lure driver after the lure again appeared to have slowed during the race putting this race in danger of a no race and the possible abandonment of the eighth and last race. Aftr a short delay Easey notified the all clear.

Of the seven races run on Sunday, Mudgee trainers collected most of the spoils to take the winner’s cheque on four occasions.

The win of ‘Spot The Moo’ was a special occasion for the Ford family who own the dog.

As a pup ‘Sport The Moo’ was diagnosed with renal failure and was put out in a paddock and was not expected to live, let alone race.

Now a three-year-old ‘Spot The Moo’ regained good health and on Sunday broke through for his first win at his third race start.

He had his first race three weeks ago at Bathurst and ran third then a week later at the same track finished second.

Spot The Moo is trained by Robert Sonter at Mudgee.
