Mudgee Pistol Club noted the increase in junior competitors durng the year past when they held their annual presentation night at the Masonic Lodge last Saturday night.
In the Junior ranks Aidan Young advanced to C Grade in Air Pistol and won this division while Clarissa Leven won the Junior D Grade in this discipline for the year from Tavis Young and Jake Wood-Smith.
Leven also won the D Grade for the year in Junior Sports Pistol while Wood-Smith took out the President’s Cup for the most improved new shooter.
In making the presentations, club president Meg Wales said the influx of junior shooters was a positive note for the future of the club.
The club’s championship trophies for 2008 were presented and George Nicholson was the major winner taking out the Mudgee Honda Club Champion 5ISU Agg trophy for the first time as well as the Mudgee Camera House Iron Man Trophy and the Trevor Ellevsen Handicap Trophy.
For many years Nicholson has had to be content to live in the shadow of Robert Nichols and this year was the first time that Nicholson had been able to get over the long term top shooter in the club.
Nichols was runner up to Nicholson for all three major trophies.
However Nichols did not miss out altogether and won the Mudgee Guardian Mid-Week Handicap Trophy in Air Pistol by just eight points over Errol Grieve.
The Gus Gudgeon Junior Match Trophy, the major annual award for juniors, was taken out by Clarissa Leven from Aidan Young and Tavis Young.
The major ladies trophy, the Mudgee Toyworld Ladies Three Match aggregate was won by Maureen Brummell from Meg Wales and Julie Gardiner.
