Increase in softballers

04 Nov, 2008 01:51 PM
Mudgee’s young softball enthusiasts had a great time last Saturday at Benny Ball once again and T-Ball has become so popular that it has now increased to four teams.

All players are improving their skills each week, which is a promising sign for the future of Mudgee Softball.

In Junior games Gulgong Goolma Phantoms defeated Midstate Smash Repairs 18 runs to 6 with great pitching by Natasha Doherty and Bria Toohey and a home run by Matt Woods. Midstate Smash put in a great effort with Cassie Plunkett doing a great job as catcher.

Max Walker Earthmoving defeated Virgo Cabling 11 runs to 6 with great pitching by Danica Roberts and Sammy Leatham.

Team Green defeated Greg’s Tyre and Mechanical 18 to 4 with great batting by Rachel Sharp, and Christina Cooper, pitching by Andre Jewell and Matt Flack.

The game between Dreamfield Video Productions and the White Tigers was a very close game with the White Tigers winning 13 runs to 12 with play of the day to Sean Harrison, and great fielding by Amy Young and excellent fielding by Nathan Holmes.

Great base running from Erin Zatschler a very cool slide into homeplate from Manual Marsh and a home run from Annalise Fekkes in the Youth Division games of an extremely high standard were the order of the day, with all players stepping up a level.

Pizza Hut defeated the Phantoms 9 runs to 4 while Mudgee Embroidery and Uniforms won against team Grey in a close match 12 runs to 11 with a good pitcher and catcher combo from Mitchell and Gabby Stait.

The Adults all had a lot of fun with some really entertaining games being played.

The game between the Galah’s and Stott’s Painting was closer than the end score showed with the Galah’s coming away with a 21 to 3 victory. Home runs from Lenny Marsh, Adrian Johnston and some impressive pitching and catching from Katrina Underwood and Cherie McLaughlin.

Mudgee High played Oriential Sparks with great pitching by Jo Anderson and batting by Ang Phillips for the Oriential Sparks and a great catch by Melissa Date on third base for Mudgee High and a home run by Claire Gibbs. The end score being Mudgee High 13 and the Oriental Sparks 1.

Pizza Hut played the Oriental and won 22 to 6. Solid catching by James Charter and, as always, some excellent pitching by Alan Walker were a highlight of this game. There was a home run by Justin Shoulders and much improved batting by Diane Sleeman.
