TOUCH FOOTBALL
After the Christmas break, Mudgee touch football kicked off the second half of the summer competition last Tuesday night.
Despite the long break all of the teams turned up and the standard of play was of a very high standard.
Most players appeared to cope well in the humid conditions and fitness levels haven't appeared to have decreased too much during the holiday season.
In the ladies competition, Video Ezy defeated Squeeze Juice Bar 8-5 in a very entertaining game.
Both teams demonstrated good ball control and defended well.
For Squeeze Juice Bar, Sally Whiting directed her teams attack and made some good runs from dummy half.
She was supported well by Lauren Flack and Jasmin McGowan who backed up with some great runs and kept the defence working overtime.
For Video Ezy, Rachel Sharpe and Erika MacPherson played extremely well.
Both of these girls have continued to improve their touch football skills and are developing into extremely good players. Zoe da Roza's defence was outstanding for Video Ezy.
In men's A-grade, it was experience versus youth when the Oriental Hotel played FMPL/Ultimate Care.
In a very tight match, the experience of Ori won in the end, 5-3.
For the Oriental Hotel, Jared Robinson caused the younger team all sorts of trouble with his speed and scored a 50-metre run away try.
The father and son combination of Peter and Jeremy Doherty continually had FMPL/Ultimate Care on the back foot and it was only some passes that missed the mark that stopped them from scoring on a number of occasions.
FMPL/Ultimate care have made a successful transition to the men's top division and are competing well against the more experienced teams.
Harry Ottley is in sensational form and is showing wonderful attacking skills with the ball in hand and is working hard in defence.
He was well supported by Tom Armstrong and Stuart Fredericks, both of whom work well together in attack.
A reminder to all players to ensure that they sign on before games and that team's must fulfil their duties when they are rostered on to referee. Otherwise competition points will be deducted from teams who fail to supply a referee.
