New shooters at Mudgee Pistol Club

A busy afternoon at the Mudgee Pistol Club saw several new shooters take to the range to try out their skills and add to the growing number of men, ladies and juniors who are taking up the sport.

First match of the day was the usual 25 yard service event with the usual predictable results with Nicholson and Nichols pushing each other to take charge of the match.

This week Robert Nichols took the reins and was a winner on 602 points from George Nicholson on 572 with Bruce Drakeford taking the third spot on 545.

Nichols and Nicholson took the first two placs off handicap with Darren McMurtie in third place.

A large field contested the popular standard pistol rim fire match and Junior shooter, Clarissa Leven took the handicap first place with a nett 665 from Richie Nichols on 600 and Jake Woodsmith in third position on 599, giving the first three places on handicap to these promising juniors.

Top off gun score went to Rodney Leven on 543, from Ray Brummell on 521 with George Nicholson taking third spot on 517.

In the Ladies match, top shooter was again that talented newcomer to shooting, Mia Tsopis with 428 from Barbara Duff finishing on 359 with Kim peach on 182.

The air pistol complex saw one of its busiest afternoons with a great lineup of new and experienced shooters.

Top shooter, showing that a new pistol will do the job, was Peter Reilly, who shot a 447, with Fred Weber in second place on 382 and Shane Foley in third spot with 380.

In the junior section, Jacob Nichols shot a 434 nett to take the match from Richie Nichols on 356 and Jake Woodsmith third on 348.

Next Saturday’s matches will commence at 12.30pm with 25 yard centre fire service, followed at 2pm with a 65 round sports pistol match on range two and for the purists, arange one will host a Black Powder muzzle loading match.

Members are reminded of two important dates the Club dinner witll be held on Saturday, October 25 an the Annual General meeting members will be held on Saturday, November 15.
