Mudgee Golf Club Functions Coordinator Rebecca Feller said that it was a successful day that was supported by newcomers and the club’s regulars.
“It was fantastic, there was a great turnout, we had a lot of new visitors to the club plus a lot of our current members came out as well,” she said.
The day culminated in ‘The Great Ball Drop’ when around 1500 numbered golf balls from the sky with the nearest to the pin the winner, the $10,000 prize had to be split two ways.
Brad Walsh’s daughters Ava and Amelia can look forward to a wonderful Christmas after their father won half of the prize.
He said he plans to spend his $5000 win on “spoiling his children”.
The numbered golf ball matching Mr Walsh’s ticket was one of two which came to earth resting against the pin after being dropped from a cherry picker.
The second winner was Peter Waterton.
While the final figures for the drop are still being tallied it looks like $20,000 to $25,000, will be split between the Mudgee Golf Club and the Mudgee District Motorcycle Club.
Nearly $8000 was raised from the silent auction and live auction, which will be split between Mudgee District Hospital and Lifeskills Plus.
Mrs Feller said that The Great Ball Drop will definitely return to the Club’s calendar of events next year but the balls will go on sale earlier.
