Baby Laura was born at Mudgee District Hospital and weighed 3.245kg, or 7lb and 1oz in the old money, and measured 49cm in length.
In addition to being born on the first day of the first month of the year she is also the first child of proud parents Monica and Aaron.
Unusually it didn’t seem like Laura would be born on that date.
“She’s three weeks early,” Monica said.
“She’s definitely determined because she wasn’t due until the 20th.”
Even before she arrived it looked like Laura was going to be a New Year’s Eve baby but she was born in the early hours of Wednesday morning, which meant that she now also shares her birthday with her mum Monica.
However, Monica said this wasn’t entirely unforeseen.
“Aaron’s mum predicted that she would be born on my birthday,” Monica said. “It’s an excellent start to the year.”
The names William and Charlotte were the most common for Australian babies in 2013 but while they did show up locally they weren’t the most common in Mudgee.
This is according to the top 100 baby names in Australia for 2013 list which can be found in McCrindle Research’s report.
The Mudgee Guardian’s new arrivals printed 94 local newborns’ photos in 2013.
The top national names, William and Charlotte, both made an appearance, along with four of the top 10 boys’ names - William, Jack, Noah and Lucas - and three girls’ names - Charlotte, Ruby and Olivia.
However, the most common name in the New Arrivals was Charlie - as boys’ names - which appeared three times.
Interestingly all three were Charlie, not Charles as it may have been in years gone by.
The names Archer, David, Logan and Liam all appeared more than once.
Five local newborns hadn’t been named at the time of their photo being taken.
