“We have had the most fantastic show. I’m really beside myself with how well we did,” Grathlyn Stud principal Max Rayner said.
The Rayners took 16 sheep to the Royal Easter Show, and aside from the grand champion ribbons, will return home with 10 first prizes and three second prizes as well as a number of other accolades.
Grathlyn exhibited the NSW Merino August Shorn Pair (ewe and ram) for the second year running, giving the stud the honour of representing NSW at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo in July.
“We were able to represented Grathlyn at Bendigo last year and were named National Pair, and while I don’t want to get ahead of myself and say we’ll do the same this year, at least we have the right to represent NSW again,” Mr Rayner said.
As well as NSW August Shorn Pair, Grathlyn was also awarded Grand Champion Superfine Merino Ram, Reserve Champion Superfine Merino Ram, Grand Champion Superfine Poll Ewe, Reserve Champion Superfine Poll Ewe, Grand Champion Ultrafine August Shorn Ram and Grand Champion Ultrafine August Shorn Ewe.
“We’ve had a wonderful show. Its been our best show in years, not just because of the results, but because the standard of the sheep being shown was at a record peak this year,” Mr Rayner said.
The Australian Sheep and Wool Show takes place on July 18, 19 and 20, where Grathlyn will be hoping to top the results of last year’s show.
