Mrs Bryant died after her bicycle was hit by a ford utility on Ulan Road, about 100 metres north of the Lue Road intersection. Both bicycle and utility were traveling south towards Mudgee at the time of the accident – about 7.45am.
The driver, a 33-year-old man, was not injured but taken to Mudgee Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
Ulan Road remained closed throughout Sunday as police crime scene investigators and detectives examined the scene.
Police said on Monday morning that they were preparing to take statements from several people about the collision.
Mudgee Wine Grape Growers Association president and Burrundulla Wines’ Ted Cox said on Monday that Mrs Bryant’s death was a “tragic accident”.
He described Jill as a “great and likable character”.
“She was passionate about the wine industry,” he said.
“On behalf of the Association our thoughts are with Jill’s husband Tony and their family.”
Apart from being the co-owner of Burnbrae Wines, Mrs Bryant also worked at Mudgee Radiology. The local radiology office was closed on Monday in respect for Mrs Bryant’s passing.
Both Tony and Jill have owned Burnbrae since 2004.
A report is being prepared for the coroner and Mudgee police have launched an investigation, urging anyone with information to contact Mudgee Police Station on 6372 2855 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to visit the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
