The man was reported to have head trauma after a cycling accident along Cope Road near Gulgong.
On Monday Mudgee police confirmed that on Saturday a group of cyclists had travelled along Ulan Road before turning on to Cope Road, heading south towards Gulgong.
At 8.57am and about 400 metres north of the Joss Davis Bridge, the 53-year-old and another male cyclist’s tyres collided, causing them both to fall on to the road and sustain injuries.
A spokeswoman from Westmead Hospital said on Monday the 53-year-old was in a stable condition.
