Dunedoo golfer Chantell Greaves is in a tie for ninth after two rounds of the World Deaf Golf Championships in the United States.
Greaves has scored 182 strokes from her two rounds – 91 on both days – to sit alongside American Lauri Ponikiewski.
It doesn’t look like Greaves will be able to win the championship as she is 28 strokes behind leader Patty Lopez of the USA.
However, a place in the top four is certainly a realistic chance.
The third round of the tournament was held earlier this morning (Australian time) and the final round will be played on Saturday morning.
The championship is being played at Grand Traverse Resort in Michigan.
In the team event, Australia sit in second position behind the host country.
Greaves was invited to play at the World Deaf Golf Championships by Deaf Golf Australia.
“At the time my handicap was about 13 but I’ve worked really hard on it and I’m down to 10.6 now. They [Deaf Golf Australia] looked at my results and invited me to join about 17 other players from around the country,” she said to the Mudgee Guardian in March.
Greaves has been deaf since she was two years old but had to prove she had a hearing impairment before playing in the tournament.
It is her biggest tournament after she took up golf as a hobby following the sudden passing of her husband in 2010.
Greaves was Dunedoo’s Senior Sportsperson of the Year in 2013 and has won several women’s competitions across the western district.
She has been a multiple women’s club champion at Dunedoo Golf Club.
