Andrew Patrick Norris, 23, of Belmore Street, Gulgong, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and one of intimidation.
In the early hours of Saturday, June 14, 2014, Norris was arguing with his ex-partner outside her Mudgee home. During this he was so upset he smashed a bottle over his own head.
The police took him to Mudgee District Hospital and then to his home in Gulgong at about 5am.
When at home Norris began yelling at and threatening members of his family before attempting to punch one and biting the thumb of another as he was being restrained.
Norris’s legal-aid solicitor, Ms Ozborn, told the court that her client had no recollection of the events but doesn’t dispute that they happened.
Magistrate Bruce Williams said “It’s quite bizarre” and questioned whether the defendant has a drinking problem.
He added that Norris needs to accept that “You’re going to go through life and people are going to mess your emotion around”.
