Students participated in educational programs that focused on Australia’s history, government, heritage, culture and democracy.
This included programs at the New and Old Parliament House, The War Memorial, Questacon, the National Gallery and the National Zoo and Aquarium.
The students stayed at Eagle Hawk Caravan Park and during their stay were treated with extra activities such as indoor rock climbing, a trip to the cinemas in Belconnen, and an adventure to Perisher Ski Resort to play in the snow.
Teachers said the students were a pleasure to take on the excursion. Behaviour was exceptional with students asking well thought out questions during all educational programs.
This excursion complemented their unit in Term Two - Making Informed Choices - with a focus on government and important events in Australian history and democracy.
Highlights for the students included speaking to their local member for parliament Joel Fitzgibbon, snow ball throwing and tackling their school principal Mr Morley in the snow. They also enjoyed various sing-a-longs on the bus between venues.
A big thank you is extended to parents for having students ready to leave for Canberra in the very early hours of the morning and for promptly collecting their children from school in the evening on their return.
“All parents should be very proud of the maturity displayed by their children throughout the excursion,” a spokesperson said.
