Three tries in the first half to Kelly Dowdy set up Mudgee Dragons’ 34-10 victory over Oberon Tigers at Glen Willow Stadium on Sunday.
Mudgee ran in five tries in the first 25 minutes to lead at the break 24-4.
In the first 10 minutes Mudgee scored three tries, the first to Haley Joseph and the next two to Dowdy, to set them on their winning way.
Dragons’ coach Ivan Giammarco was pleased with the 24-point victory.
“We attacked very well I thought,” he said.
“The only time we let Oberon back into the game was on the back of our mistakes.
“But we sort of clicked on the fringes, which is great.
“Our defence was solid, they couldn’t break our line and that’s pleasing heading into the semi-finals.”
After Mudgee shot out to a 16-0 lead, Oberon scored through Zoe Mawkes.
Her four-pointer was cancelled out however by Dowdy’s third of the half and Marita Shoulders’ try.
The second half started in the same way as the first, with Dowdy’s sister Peta Newsome scoring the first try.
Anna McKid scored to make it a 30-point margin before the Tigers hit back to post the last try of the match through Lourie Bailey and end the scoring at 34-10.
Giammarco praised Dowdy for scoring a hat-trick.
“Kelly Dowdy played well, she scored three tries before half-time. She kind of led the way in our attack,” Giammarco said.
“Across the park I thought our girls played very well. You have to be happy with that.”
