Pizza Hut Mudgee has closed, almost exactly two years after David Tiggemann of Hideki Rising Enterprises reopened the store.
Mr Tiggemann said the Mudgee Pizza Hut franchise had been terminated by Pizza Hut parent company Yum! Restaurants on financial grounds, as of July 25.
“We would like to thank all of our customers and staff for supporting us over the last two years and regret that we are no longer able to continue to service the community,” he said.
Mr Tiggemann took over the Pizza Hut franchise in July 2012, after the store’s temporary closure the previous month.
He had started his career as a delivery driver, working his way up to purchase Bathurst Pizza Hut in December 2011.
At the time he described becoming the franchise owner in his home town as “a dream come true”.
Price pressure has led to internal battles in the Pizza Hut organisation recently, with Yum! imposing a price cap on local franchisees to match their competitors.
A group of 80 Pizza Hut franchisees last month made an unsuccessful attempt to get an injunction against Yum! to stop the new pricing cap, which they said would cost them $10 million and put many franchisees out of business.
