Four points was the biggest margin in the game at any time and Hawks had this advantage at the first break, ahead 8-4.
By half time Waves had reduced the margin to a single basket, and all signs pointed to a close finish.
Waves were back on the attack early with baskets by Matt Perring, however Tom Swords replied quickly for Hawks and the battle continued.
Emma Amygdalos and Angus Frost added another two buckets for Waves against another by Swords, and at the final break the score was locked 20-all.
Dylan Slater put Waves in front with a three pointer, followed by a second in between a basket from Amygdalos, but Hawks would never let them get out of their sight as Swords, Lehi Poppe and Archie Roberts added vital points, keeping their team in touch.
At 30-all Amygdalos looked to have sealed a win for Waves with her third basket of the quarter.
But less than a minute from full time, Tas Rooke filling in for the injured Brandon Roberts-Tilley, locked up the game yet again sinking two free throws.
Neither team was able to find a winning basket in the final seconds, and fittingly with both teams scoring 12 points in the last quarter, a draw was the final result.
Both Lightning and Flames had players filling in for those that were away, so the result of this game was going to be a lottery, the numbers eventually favouring Lightning 41-37.
Flames with their scratch line up led 7-2 at quarter time but Lightning hit back to take the second quarter 10-6. Flames were still narrow leaders at 13-12.
Flames held out Lightning 16-15, in the third period, but were now only a single basket in front.
The stage was set for a tense final quarter struggle, but Lightning had other ideas, finishing over the top of Flames 14-8, to win by four points.
Manu Lopez-Contraras scored 18 points for Lightning, Natan Darcy eight. For Flames, Liam Young posted 23 points, Tas Rooke, now playing for his own team scored eight.
Tigers head the ladder, relegating Kings from second to third, after knocking the crowns askew 28-19.
In a tight low scoring encounter, Tigers edged out Kings in the first quarter 7-6, their defence then repelling Kings offensive forays allowing only a single basket while sinking four crucial buckets to extend the lead to seven at half time.
Kings’ offence was more successful in the third quarter with six points, but Tigers sank another four baskets to be in front by nine points at the final break.
Points were again hard to come by in the final period, however with the pressure on Kings to come from behind to win, Tigers closed up shop. While the Tigers only scored five points, Kings could do no better.
Jordan Clementson scored nine points for Tigers, Braden Hodgetts eight, and Bailey Brown six. For Kings, Dylan Harris scored nine, Ethan Millsom four, and Bernadette King two.
