Mudgee Region feature
Our region received an incredible piece of coverage from the recent familiarisation we organised for Constantina Pilatos of Higher View magazine. The publication is an inflight magazine with a circulation of 65,000. It is also distributed at newsstands across Australia and in many Sydney hotels. The piece covers a whopping 12 pages and includes a Chinese translation.
Volunteer translators wanted
Speaking of translation, do you speak a foreign language and would you be willing to be called by the Visitor Centre staff if the need arises to translate? Of late we have had a few visitors particularly of Vietnamese and Chinese origin speaking very little English. If we were able to phone you to help us assist these visitors it would be very helpful. Please contact Rebecca at the Visitors Centre if you would like to be on our list of contacts to help.
Harleys at Kandos
This weekend Kandos will be hosting around 80 Harley Davidson bikers form the Harley Owners Group. They will arrive at 12.30pm in Kandos and will create quite a buzz in the town. Ken Hopkins from Bikes and Buds in Kandos has organised the event. Extra staff and fuel have been requested at the local service station and catering will be supplied with the aid of hospitality students from the High School.
The Harley riders will be coming from Sydney and the Central Coast via the popular Bylong Way.
The bikes will be joined by the Harley Davidson backup crew with a Lotus car club coming in behind them. After lunch at Kandos they will be travelling to Mudgee for dinner and overnight accommodation so get ready for a spectacular sight and a bit of noise.
Kandos Markets
Whilst on the subject of Kandos, The “Kandos 5th Sunday of the month Market” will be held on August 31 from 9am till 1pm at the Kandos Railway Green. There will be a sausage sizzle and hot and cold drinks available as well as produce, craft, art and clothes - a great family day out. More stall holders are welcome so please phone 0425 275 749 if you would like a stall.
Local Plate
The Local Plate competition is running again this year during the Mudgee Wine and Food Festival, September 12 to October 5.
Last year’s competition saw restaurants, cafes, wineries and galleries all creating a local dish on their menu, and vying for the champion Local Plate trophy. Nearly 1000 diners ordered those dishes, and voted in the competition to win a ‘Weekend of Food and Wine in Mudgee’ package.
This year there will be extensive media coverage as part of the Unearth Central NSW campaign, as well as support from MWR Council, Mudgee Region Tourism Inc, and the MWGG Association.
To get you thinking about regional produce, a comprehensive list of local producers can be found on the MFF website. Please call Liz Mayberry on 0407 288 797 at Mudgee Fine Foods for more information or a copy of the entry form.
