The six puppies were found in two inches of water at the bottom of a dumpster at Ulan tip last Sunday.
Although they weren’t expected to survive the first few days after being found, all six are now up and moving, thanks to Tracey Gooch and her family.
'They’re just starting to walk and if you leave them alone for too long they can be on the other side of the lounge room.'
The family plan to raise the puppies until they are old enough to be adopted by loving families.
“We’ll look after them for the next month or so as the vet said they would have a better chance of surviving if they were reared together,” Mrs Gooch said.
The puppies – possibly kelpies – finally opened their eyes earlier in the week and have spent the past few days wriggling their way around the Gooches’ lounge room floor as they get used to their legs.
“They’re just starting to walk and if you leave them alone for too long they can be on the other side of the lounge room,” Mrs Gooch said.
When the puppies are old enough, they will be handed over to the RSPCA or the Mudgee pound and be put up for adoption.
“We want them to go to good homes and we know the RSPCA will ensure that,” Mrs Gooch said.
