This year’s theme was “Just Add Water”.
The event once again brought students from schools across the Mid-Western region and from as far afield as Ilford, Hill End and Dunedoo.
There were 17 presentations on about issues relevant to environmental management in the local region.
These included the catchment and people’s impact on it, native species, feral animals, water usage, soil health, planting trees, and more.
Vivian Howard from Watershed Landcare said Green Day was an important date on the organisation’s calendar which informs the next generation in practical ways.
“This is our largest annual event, this is the sixth year, and it generally follows the same format each year,” she said.
“There’s a keynote speaker and 17 presenters from local businesses who deliver a topic relevant to their business, for instance the wineries talk about soil health and what is required to make a bottle of wine.”
This year’s keynote speaker was Ruben Meerman, better known as the ABC’s “Surfing Scientist”, who wowed the children with some experiments.
To celebrate 25 years of Landcare there was a video competition held for students to enter by making a three-minute video on what the organisation does.
The competition was won by Rylstone Public School, whose video included a spiel about Landcare, an interview with a member and some examples of what the school is doing to make their grounds a greener place.
