The winery took home four major trophies, including the awards for Champion Wine of the Show, Most Outstanding White Wine, Best White (Not Chardonnay or Semillon) and Most Successful Exhibitor of the Show.
The Champion Wine of the Show award, Most Outstanding White and Best White (not Chardonnay or Semillon) was presented for Robert Stein Wines’ newly released 2014 Riesling.
The winery also won two gold, five silver and nine bronze medals to take home the Most Successful Exhibitor award for the fourth time in six years.
Andrew Stein of Robert Stein Wines said the judging panel were particularly impressed with the white wines shown this year, particularly the Riesling.
Robert Stein wines’ also won a gold medal for an older Riesling, showing that wines of this variety are not only currently but age well, he said.
Other successful wineries were Burnbrae Wines, which showed the Most Outstanding Sweet Wine and Best Chardonnay.
Bunnamagoo Wines also added to its trophy cabinet, winning the awards for Best Semillon and the Best Museum White Perpetual Trophy.
The Mudgee Wine Grape Growers’ $6000 Heroes and Icons Scholarship was shared by Brody Crawford of Bunnamagoo Wines and Andrew Ling of Robert Oatley Vineyards.
The scholarship is awarded to young people in the Mudgee district who are starting their career in the wine industry.
For the first time, the 2014 Mudgee Wine Show accepted entries from local producers who use fruit from within the Central Ranges zone that encompasses Cowra, Orange and Mudgee.
The Mudgee Wine Show awards launched the 2014 Mudgee Wine and Food Festival, which continues throughout the district until October 6.
