Taking on Travel and Cruise (TC), the scores were levelled at 2-all with full-time approaching.
Both teams had opportunities to win the match with penalty strokes in the final few minutes, however the shots were saved.
The match went into extra-time and IC Cool got the decisive goal to win 3-2.
It was an incredible finish to what was a fantastic season for the association.
The grand final was played in beautiful conditions and a supportive crowd came out to watch the two best teams go head-to-head.
There was the usual settling-in period with the players finding their positions and some hesitant runs at goal.
IC Cool struck first when Mark Bennie found the back of the cage with an absolute screamer of a shot against TC goalkeeper Natalie Richards.
This seemed to gel the IC Cool team who attacked again and again with a cluster of players working as one.
Ian Cottee, Damien Sutcliffe and Matt Stanley worked towards the goal, and Rachel Johnson retrieved a deflection on goal and scored her first goal of the season.
The leaders took their foot off the throttle and were more defensive in the lead up to half-time.
The pep talk from coach Dave Scales lifted TC and they came out firing in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
They piled on the pressure and in a short space of time they achieved the desired result and scored two quick goals.
Nic McLehose scored first then a Bec Box shot on goal was deflected by IC Cool’s goalkeeper Vanessa Johnson and Ben Kerr scored to make it 2-2.
In the last 10 minutes, TC relentlessly attacked IC Cool’s defence but with no reward.
However, a penalty stroke was called against TC’s keeper Richards and IC Cool’s Matt Stanley stepped up for the shot.
Richards was able to block the ball to the left and save the shot.
At the other end and 28 seconds before full-time, TC were awarded an opportunity to win with a penalty stroke called against IC Cool.
With the crowd on the edge of their seats, Ben Kerr lined up against IC Cool’s keeper Vanessa Johnson.
The goalkeeper leapt and deflected Kerr’s high shot away from the goals, much to the delight of her team.
The full-time whistle blew and the scores remained 2-2, which meant extra-time was required.
The first five minutes saw runs at goal but both back lines were impassable with Jo Ioane and Kristel Barnes for TC, and Lisa Cottee and Jason Nicolls for IC Cool standing their ground.
But in a messy goal line fight for the ball, IC Cool’s Cory Pilley and Rachel Johnson managed to breach the TC goal line, and take a 3-2 lead into half-time of extra-time.
In the second period TC threw everything at IC Cool and they pushed players forward in an attempt to find the equaliser.
The defence of IC Cool continued to repel TC’s advances by Nico Ioane, Mark Collins, Dave Scales and Nic McLehose.
IC Cool were able to hold TC out in the second period and win the 2014 title.
