It was a feast for the senses on Saturday afternoon, when the annual Flavours of Mudgee street festival took over Market Street for hours of wine, food, and entertainment.
Thousands of people made the most of the warm weather, browsing the stalls for a taste of the amazing wine and delicious food the Mudgee region has to offer.
Pip Goldsmith from Mid-Western Regional Council said the night was everything Council had hoped with 66 stallholders taking over the street.
“Obviously we’re thrilled. There’s been great weather all day and with the large number of stall holders, we were always expecting a very big crowd,” she said.
“There are lines everywhere and the Mudgee Wine and Grape Growers had sold nearly all their wine glasses by the halfway mark.
“It’s all about the celebration of what’s on offer and we’re seeing that in action. Our stallholders have been thrilled with the event so far and are looking forward to making the most of the marketing opportunity that Flavours provides.
“We created this event to get all of the wine and food producers together in one spot and to purposely give them business opportunities in regards to economic development and stimulus for the town.”
Guests were equally happy with the event’s atmosphere, meeting with friends, sipping some of the region’s best wines, and trying everything from Vietnamese to Nepalese, Thai to a good, old-fashioned lamb pie for dinner.
“We attend the festival in Pyrmont each year and one of the winegrowers told us that since we liked that festival we’d love Flavours of Mudgee, so here we are” Clyde Maddock from Auckland, New Zealand said.
“The guy from Walter Wines told us Mudgee was a ‘great little town’ and we had to see for ourselves.
It’s such a great night, we’ll definitely be back next year,”
By the end of the night, chefs and producers had sold out of items on their menus and wineries were pouring the last of the bottle into glasses.
“It’s been a really hard day/ We’ve just been so busy from the very start,” Ro Francis from High Valley Wine and Cheese said.
