Coolah’s annual veteran touch football tournament keeps getting bigger and bigger with a record number of teams contesting next week’s event.
The organisers are delighted to have 38 teams take part in the event, which is five teams more than their previous best.
The carnival is in its 22nd year and it is expected up to 1000 visitors will arrive in Coolah for the two-day tournament, beginning on November 1.
Teams will again be travelling from near and far to attend this carnival and it is renowned throughout the central west and beyond as a fun, well organised and friendly competition with many competitors coming back year after year.
Teams from Coolah, Mudgee, Dunedoo, Cassilis, Premer, Lithgow, Bathurst, Penrith, Portland, Dubbo, Aberdeen, Muswellbrook, Gunnedah, St Marys, Wollongong, Newcastle, Central Coast, Tamworth, Moree, Nelsons Bay, Taree, Bombala and Caves Beach.
The competition starts with a round robin of matches on Saturday before the graded matches on Sunday – each team is guaranteed three games on Saturday and a minimum of two on Sunday for the play-offs.
Teams can be men or mixed with the men having three players aged 30-34 years and the rest must be over 35. All women players must be 30 years and over.
There will be entertainment on both nights and Saturday night’s dress theme is Halloween.
The Coolah Pre-school will be running the canteen at Bowen Oval and the Coolah Lions Club will be manning the barbecue.
